The Experience Tasmania full day tour to Port Arthur is one of contrasts. The day is filled with history and natural beauty that will leave you awestruck and filled with contemplation of times gone by.

The tour commences by heading out of Hobart city across the Tasman Bridge and onto the township of Richmond (Summer season) or Sorell (Winter season). From there you weave through coastal villages and agricultural fields on your way to the Tasman Peninsula. Your experienced driver guide keeps you entertained with personal insights, wildlife facts and other points of interest along the way. As you enter Tasman National Park the scenery changes to a natural bush setting with spectacular coastal views.

Arriving at Port Arthur, you enter the modern interpretation centre, where your driver introduces you to the World Heritage site and is at hand to answer questions. The tour is fully escorted, with the driver guide there to assist you as needed. The Port Arthur historic site contains more than 30 historic buildings, which you can explore at your own pace.

After a short visit to the interpretation centre to view the well thought out and visually stimulating exhibits, you can join an optional walking tour of the Port Arthur site. The tour visits major building sites such as the Penitentiary, Commandants House, the Asylum and Separate Prison. Your guide talks you through life at Port Arthur as a convict and a free settler. There is time to wander through the various buildings and exhibits and admire the neatly manicured gardens before heading toward the dock to join your cruise on Carnarvon Bay.

The thirty minute cruise gives you a different perspective of the site and takes you past the Isle of the Dead, a 1100 grave cemetery, and Point Puer, the site of the boys’ prison. Post-cruise you have time to eat lunch and explore the site further or join the free optional Remarkable Cave tour.

You wrap up the tour of Port Arthur and back on the bus, stop at the breathtaking Tasman’s Arch and Pirates Bay lookout to admire stunning coastal views of Tasman National Park before heading back to Hobart.

There is so much on offer at Port Arthur, it is an amazing, must-see World Heritage site. The coastal views of the Tasman National Park leave you at the end of your tour with memories of an unforgettable experience.
